Flower and Memorial Guidelines

Amended May 24, 2007

Dear Families, Association Members and Lot Owners:

Listed below are a set of guidelines pertaining to the placing and removal of flowers and memorials within Long Creek Cemetery.  Please work together with us to care for our Cemetery.

1.            Holidays:  Flowers for holidays may be placed thirty (30) days prior to the event and should be removed no later than thirty (30) days after.  If holiday flowers remain after the deadline they will be removed.

2.         Funeral Flowers: We make every attempt to leave funeral flowers on the graves as long as they are looking good.  Once they are gone they shall be removed by grounds maintenance.  Families have the option to remove if they desire but should contact the Association at 972-978-0692 to notify of their decision to remove.

3.         Flags, Windsocks and Banners: These items are welcome as long as they are kept in good condition and placed at the head of the grave.

4.         Flower Containers:  All containers must be unbreakable (NO GLASS) as to maintain a safe environment for visitors and to prevent equipment wear and tear.  Containers should be placed at the head of the grave so that graves can still be mowed.

5.         Trees, Shrubs, Flowering Plants, Curbing and Fencing:  No new trees, shrubs, flowering plants, curbing or fencing will be allowed within Long Creek Cemetery.  Previous curbing and tree root systems make it very difficult at the time of burial and have caused problems for existing markers.  Fencing around a grave impedes with the mowing and care of the graves.

6.         Benches:   Concrete, Marble or Granite benches (NO WOOD) may still be placed at the foot of a burial or at the side as long as the bench is within the boundary of your own lot.   If you have a lot in the tree line you may place your bench next to your lot in the tree line.  Please notify the Association Board prior to placing a bench.

7.         Placement of Markers:  Families have the option of placing an upright or a flat marker.  We encourage our families to place a concrete “skirt” or “padding” under their new marker as this will slow the process of the marker sinking (See Example Picture Below).  Your marker company can supply you with more information on this item.  Please advise your marker company that they will need to contact the Association before placing a marker on the grounds so that the lot can be marked for accurate placement.   The Association will mark the lot but the family should met with the marker company for proper placement.

If you have any questions please contact the Association at 469-685-4083
